Lessons 21-30

Day 21, Lesson from my Owner’s Manual

What can you do when someone asks you for help, and you just can’t do it? Whether it be money, food clothes, etc., sometimes the answer is sorry, can’t help. But do we end it there? I don’t. I try not to beat myself up when I have to say sorry, can’t do it. What I do is pray. I pray that God provides each person’s needs. Maybe not their wants, but needs. Then I trust God will provide. I remember growing up when we didn’t have money to buy gifts. Mom always found a way to cook a good meal. Both mom and dad made sure we knew what the Real Reason for the Season was. We still look in the closets and if we have an extra coat or other clothes, we find a way to give them to those who are in need. We don’t make a big deal of it.

It is what we are supposed to do. We share the Christmas story, we say Merry Christmas, and smile at people. We do not get wrapped up in the commercialization of the Holiday. We do what we can, and then just a little more. We allow God’s Love to shine through us. It warms us, and He does the blessing.

Today, do what you can, and just a little more. Think about it.

God bless.

Day 22, Lesson from my Owner’s Manual

Many years ago, a young girl (probably about 14 or 15) was engaged to be married to a young man. (Probably 16 to 19) His family was giving her family money/goods. Her family was to teach her how to be a good wife, and make sure she was “pure and chaste” Imagine his surprise (to say the least) when she told him she was pregnant. He really had a tough choice to make. According to the Law, he could sell her into slavery, or have her stoned to death. It took a visit from an Angel to convince him what to do. Imagine how his family felt, and hers too. I am sure tongues were wagging and gossip was rampant. She still was not married to him when she gave birth. The girl? Mary. The boy? Joseph. The Child, Jesus, Son of the Most High God, born to die, for me and you!

Think about it.

God Bless

Day 23, Lesson from my Owner’s Manual

Will call them Zack and Liz. They had been married a LONG time! Still in love, still “sexually active.” Liz was well past child bearing age. Angel appeared to Zack, told him that Liz was going to bear him a child, and his name would be John. Zack had a hard time believing this, and questioned the Angel’s message. Angel told Zack he would not be able to talk again until the boy was born. Fast forward a few months. Mary and Liz were cousins. Mary went to visit Liz while she was pregnant. Apparently Mary and Liz were just a few months apart in their pregnancy. When Mary got close to Liz, something happened. Liz told Mary that her baby had “Leaped for Joy” in her womb. Seems the unborn John had recognized the baby Jesus in Mary’s womb. Fast forward another month or two. Liz gave birth, and people around her were trying to help her pick a name. Zack was suddenly able to speak, and told them his name was John! We came to know him as John the Baptist, the voice crying in the wilderness, “prepare ye the way of the Lord.”

Do I really believe this?

ABSOLUTELY. It was all foretold by the prophets of old.

Think about it.

God bless.

Day 24, Lesson from my Owner’s Manual

Peace!

Just a simple word with so much meaning. Jesus said “My Peace I leave with you.” A Peace that goes beyond all understanding. What did He mean by that? The Angels told the shepherds “Peace on Earth, Good Will toward men.” Peace in the middle of a storm? Yes, because we know the Master of the wind. It is a Peace that comes from KNOWING. No matter what, God is God, and I am His Child. We spend so much time listening to all the troubles and strife in the world today, can we just take a moment and FEEL the Peace God gives us? Right now, close your eyes, and feel God’s Peace.

Think about it.

God Bless and Peace be with you!

Day 25, Lesson from my Owner’s Manual

Peace is still on my mind today. I heard the voice of my niece Lisa Rae Davis earlier today. Talked with mom and dad, hugged wife several times, spent some time with both our dogs in my lap, thinking about Peace. Then it dawned on me, I was really at Peace. Oh sure, life on life’s terms can be hard at times, bad news abounds, wars and rumors of war, etc. But for that few minutes, I was at Peace. Giving thanks to God for the Peace that is available to us anytime, anyplace. Today, I will choose Peace, rather than turmoil. I will seek His Peace, and share it with others.

Think about it.

God bless

Day 26, Lesson from my Owner’s Manual

Stay with me on this one; my mind is like a safe. (A small safe, to be sure) My “safe” is useless unless it is open. I have to be careful what I put in my safe. If all I put in are Junk Mail, worries, doubts, anger, etc., then I have no room for the valuable stuff. Love, Peace, Joy, you know, the GOOD stuff. Jesus said “Let not your hearts be troubled” Owner’s Manual also says as our thoughts go, so too will our body. I clean my safe out every night when I pray. I throw away all the negative stuff, and put back in the Good stuff. Today, I will Trust God in ALL things.

Think about it.

God bless.

Thanks for reading and sharing these Lessons from My Owner’s Manual.

Day 27, Lesson from my Owner’s Manual

Thoughts are running in many directions. Trying to stay focused on the Real Reason for the Season. Remember where it says “Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart!”? Sometimes, that is what I must do, ponder them in my heart. “Be still, and know that I am God!”

Today, take a little of your time and listen to what God is saying to your heart.

That is what I am going to do today!

Think about it!

God bless.

Day 28, Lesson from my Owner’s Manual

Faith, the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen. Just thinking about that this morning. I once asked a young girl (about 10, I think) what she thought about all of this “God Stuff” I asked her to tell me what she believed, not what someone else said, not what she had been taught, but what she believed herself. I often have this conversation with young ones. Sometimes their wisdom will amaze me. When I asked her how she knew there really was a God, she got this serious look on her face, and replied “Some things you just know you know!” Do we have enough Faith to trust God? Or do we go to Him in prayer with our “To do list” You know, God do this, God do that? Do we really have Faith, when we ask God to do something, and continue to worry about whatever it is? I have found that God answers every prayer. He answers Yes, No, and not right now. Today I will exercise my Faith, allowing it to grow stronger.

Think about it.

God bless.

Day 29, Lesson from my Owner’s Manual

This one has been on my mind a lot lately, so I guess I better share. Remember when Jesus met the woman at the well, and asked her for a drink of water? She said, basically, why you ask me, our people don’t even get along. Jesus said, if you had asked me for a drink, I would have given you a drink of Living Water, from which you would never thirst. That got her attention, and she asked for more info. Jesus said “Go get your husband” She said she did not have a husband. Jesus told her she was right. She was married 5 times, and the man she was living with then was not her husband! This blew her away. What did Jesus do? Did He condemn her! No. He used her to minister to the men in her town. She ran to the men (indicates they knew who she was) and told them to come see a Man that told her all things about herself. (would also indicate that Jesus shared more than her marital status with her). They listened, and came. Where were the disciples? They were off looking for a place to eat. Now if Jesus did not judge this woman. Well, just let me say. We need to put our Judging Sticks away, and be a witness. God is the Judge, and He is better at being God than I am. I think I will let him!

Think about it.

God bless.

Day 30, Lesson from my Owner’s Manual

If yesterday’s post stirred some of you up, well, get ready to pray. Seems that “Religious Leaders” were always trying to trick Jesus into saying something so they could attack him. He was always a step or two ahead of them. We need to remember that. It is the same today. God not only knows our thoughts and actions, he knows our motives! When we do right because it is the right thing to do, that’s cool. If we do “right” because we want something in return, expect a reward, or just being plain fake, He knows that as well. I read again about God giving us the “Desires of our Hearts” if we pray. Here is what I have learned. As I grow more and more close to Him, the desires of my heart have changed. My heart’s desire is to be more like Him, wanting to be more of what He wants me to be! Turns out, that is what I wanted after all!

Think about it!

God bless.
